Honors Portfolio

All Honors students must complete a portfolio of their efforts by the end of the fifth week of the semester in which they plan to graduate. These portfolios must be completed in a Box folder available ONLY to the student concerned and to Honors Program staff. These folders are created during the student’s course of study at UNO; if you reach the start of the semester in which you intend to graduate and can’t find your Honors Box Folder, please notify the Honors Program promptly.

My name is Chandler Rankin, and I am a rising 5th year at UC, double majoring in Economics and Political Science. I grew up in Columbus, OH, and coming to UC has been one of the best. First-year honors-social justice This is the only honors course I took my junior year of college. It's one of those classes I took because it was required, but also one I learned more from than I thought I would. Over the course of the semester, we read Paradise by Toni Morrison, a collection of speeches from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The portfolio should consist of brief (1-2 pages each) reflective narratives attesting to a student’s achievements; each of these should be uploaded along with any supporting documents the student wishes to submit for review. Please label files clearly with your name and the appropriate category; you may wish to organize sub-folders.

Students should address each of the following categories:

Undergraduate Research Experience:Honors students may satisfy an undergraduate research requirement through many avenues, including but not limited to a contract product submitted to the Honors Program, a professional presentation at a campus, regional, national or international conference, other work presented at the campus Research and Creative Fair, or with a FUSE grant result. Students may present a case for an extraordinary undergraduate research effort, with appropriate documentation, to the Honors Director for review in order to meet this expectation. The research product should be submitted along with a brief (1-2 pages) narrative detailing/reflecting upon the experience.

Community Engagement:All students are expected to demonstrate active civic and/or community engagement, whether through internships, service learning classes or projects, volunteering, or many other possibilities, while at UNO. Students should submit written documentation (reflective narrative of 1-2 pages) of at least two such experiences/involvements to their Honors portfolio; letters from supervisors/community partners/professors detailing engagement may also be submitted.

Campus Citizenship: Students may choose to document their campus citizenship in many different ways. It could be that they have attended multiple speaker events; served on a Student Activities Board or as an Honors Student Ambassador; served on any campus group’s leadership for a year; served on an athletic team; served as a mentor on campus. Students should address the range of their campus citizenship experiences in a short reflective narrative (1-2 pages); other documentation demonstrating their achievement/engagement is also welcome here.
